The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is a haunting narrative poem written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The poem tells the story of an old mariner who is cursed for killing an albatross, which leads to supernatural events. The poem explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the interconnectedness of life. It uses vivid imagery and lyrical language to create a timeless masterpiece.
To create the title sequence for this project, I first searched for images that would represent the historical context of the book, mostly from the 1500s to 1900s. I then used Photoshop to plan the layout and make edits such as masking and color corrections. For some images, I separated them into different layers to allow for more options for movement in After Effects. Once all the assets were organized, I exported them to After Effects. By using 3D layers and a camera, I was able to create a dynamic, cinematic feel for each segment.
